General Introduction
Zhengzhou, the capital city of Henan, is the political, economic and cultural center of the province. Under its jurisdiction are 5 boroughs, 1 county, 6 districts and 4 special zones: Zhengzhou High & New Technology Industries Development Zone, Zhengzhou National Economic & Technological Development Area, Zhengdong New District and Zhengzhou Export Commodities Processing Zone. It has an area of 7446.2 square kilometers and a population of more than 7 million.
Linking the east with the west and connecting the north with the south, Zhengzhou plays an important role in the economic development of China. As an important transportation hub, a center for commerce, a city of long history and splendid culture, state outstanding tourism city and the central city of Lianyungang-Lanzhou-Xinjiang economic belt, Zhengzhou ranks among the top 50 cities in overall economic strength in China, the top 40 in hard investment environment, and the top 10 in its comprehensive investment environment. Zhengzhou is also a city with good environmental sanitation.
Zhengzhou is an integrated transportation and communication hub in China with railways, expressways, aviation and telecommunication. Beijing-Guangzhou railway and Lianyungang-Lanzhou railway intersect here. Zhengzhou has the largest freight marshalling yard in Asia--Zhengzhou north railway station, and the largest package freight transfer station--Zhengzhou east railway station. Exported commodities can go directly through customs in Zhengzhou. A special container express train from Zhengzhou to Hong Kong is fully operational now. Beijing-Zhuhai expressway and Lianhuo expressway cross here. The No.107 and No.310 state highways and 18 key highways connect Zhengzhou with surrounding provinces and cities. Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport has around 500 flights to more than 50 big and middle-sized domestic cities each week, including direct flights to Hong Kong and Macao. Zhengzhou’s post and telecommunication service volume ranks among the highest in China and Zhengzhou has initially formed its own information communication system.

Zhengzhou is a city with splendid culture and abundant tourism resources. There are a lot of scenery spots, such as Birthplace of Emperor Xuanyuan Huangdi (the ancestor of the Chinese nation), Peiligang Culture Relic, Dahe Village Remains, Ruined site of Yangcheng (capital of the Xia Dynasty), Ancient Wall Remains of Shang Dynasty, Shaolin Temple, Zhougong Survey Platform, Astronomical Observatory of Yuan Dynasty, Songyang Academy, Zhongyue Temple, Henan museum, Yellow River Exhibition Hall, Yellow River Scenic zone and so on. To better protect and develop Zhengzhou as a famous historical and cultural city, Zhengzhou was gloriously named as one of “the Eight Ancient Capitals of China” and became a member of “World Historical Cities League” in 2004.

Economy
With advanced commerce industries, Zhengzhou was officially authorized as a national experimental reform city of commerce and trade in 1997 by 5 related ministries and commissions, including National System Reform Commission. There are now a lot of big-scale and multi-functional commercial establishments and distribution markets trading with other places around the country, more than 30 of them have an annual turnover exceeding 100 million Yuan. Various national, regional, and specialized trade fares, exhibitions and meetings are being held over 100 times every year in Zhengzhou. Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange was the first future’s market in China designated by State Council and was consequently called “ The First Market in China”.
Zhengzhou has more than 50,000 industrial enterprises. Textile, machinery, building material, refractory material and energy industries have obvious advantages and aluminum, vehicle manufacturing, food and textile industries are in leading position. Zhengzhou is a national base of textile, metallurgical and building materials industries. Output of Aluminum Oxide accounts nearly half of the total output of the whole country. In this city, White Dove Group is the largest abrasive tools enterprise in Asia;Zhengzhou Yutong Coach Company is the largest and most advanced bus manufacturer in Asia; Zhengzhou Nissan Automobile Co. LTD. is the manufacturing base of business vehicle for Japan Nissan Auto Company in China.
34 kinds of mineral resources have been verified in Zhengzhou, with a rich reserve of Coal, bauxite and refractory clay. The total coal reserve in Zhengzhou is 5 billion tons, ranking first in Henan province. Wheat, corn, rice, peanut, cotton and fruit are main crops in Zhengzhou. Xinzheng Chinese date, Zhongmu garlic and Yellow River carp are famous special local products.
